Going Down The Village in December
Friday 8 December 2017
In the last Going Down The Village meeting for 2017, Florrie Cowley gave a very interesting talk and presentation on ‘The History of the Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigades.’ Friends and family were recognised in the varied pictures as we shared memories of the brigades in Borehamwood, which were disbanded in 2000.
Were you a cub, a Girl Guide or even a member of the Air Training Corps which met in Manor Way? Well, you’re one of many.
David Armitage remembered his time as a cub clearing rubble from the newly bulit houses in Furzehill Road, for his ‘bob-a-job’, and being rewarded with a refreshingly cool glass of orange squash on a sweltering hot day.
Guides country dancing at a fete; a lad from the Brigade playing his bugle while on a camping trip, only to attract a herd of cows which came running towards him!
Just some of the many memories which we enjoyed.
Next meeting: February 1st. Bring along your memories of Schools’ Sportsday. Egg and spoon and sack races!
